America is home to some of the most overweight people in the world. It wasn't always this way. There was a time when the weight issue that America is currently faced with didn't exist. A time in which eating at home everyday and in moderation made perfect sense. The times however have changed. Eating at home everyday just doesn't work with our busy schedules. Alternative solutions have been proposed but it has only complicated the situation. Instead of promoting moderation and discipline we spread the word of an easier solution. One that does not require us to compromise and give up that slice of pizza that is going straight to our thighs. I believe that we can have our cake and eat it too. That its all about moderation and discipline.

In moderation you should be free to eat what you like. Things like cake, pizza, and so on are all accessible in good moderation. Over eating is where you start to gain weight. With moderation you can eat what you want according to how you want. Judgement also determines the food choices you make and at what time. An afternoon snack can be something as simple as an apple. A snack is thus a small serving of food that is meant to settle your stomach until you have one of the major meals in your day such as lunch or dinner.

We are all composed differently. Some of us can go on for days without eating anything more than the granola bar we had the other day. Others on the other hand need a more substantial amount of food in order to maintain a healthy physic. We must find the middle ground that both pleases our food consumption need and provides us with the proper nutrition for that day. For instance, according to the food pyramid the average person should have at least 2-3 servings of dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt) per day. For some, meeting this goal can be a hassle if they do not like the taste of milk. However their are other alternatives to getting the calcium you would get in such products.

Discipline is key in terms of gaining the vitamins and minerals that you need everyday. Eating right and exercising properly is the foundation for a good healthy lifestyle. No pill, surgery, or diet will provide a one step solution to the obesity problem that is consuming America. We need to revert to a more open and classic way of thinking. One that is less high paced and more well thought out. Your health isn't just another class that you read up on the night before the big test. Your health, your life, and anything else that you care about in your life requires time, diligence, and discipline for the ideal results.

Sincerely, Hector Guzman
