What Matters To You? was a competition held on Youtube by Vancouver Film School in which they asked for people who were interested in attending Vancouver Film School to submit a video that answers the question: What Matters To You? The top 3 contestants are guaranteed a full tuition scholarship to Vancouver Film School and the program of their choice.

The winning videos were fantastic and answered a great question that I think a lot of us should answer when we wish to define who we are and what makes us unique. What makes us stand out amongst the crowd. And what people can expect from us in the years to come.

Below is the video of the contestant who i think did the best and has inspired me in a lot of my blog posts.

I really can't imagine trying to answer a question like this. It is very broad and at the same time very important. The answer you give should reflect what you believe in. The answer should come from the deepest bowels of your soul. It should prove that you are more than just a number. That you are a person with hopes, dreams, and fears that will bring great change and growth if you give it time.

The video and message help me prove my point that the journey is greater than the destination. That anything worth accomplishing takes hard work and determination. It will take hitting a few brick walls. And it will take creativity, incentive, and a passion not found in accomplishing easier goals. Of course there are doubts and fears but isn't it all worth it just to see the fruit of our labor. To experience a journey that make us a better person. That tells us we haven't killed you yet because we know that you can make it. That you're closer than you think and it's only a matter of diligence. That is what makes us people. The ability to dream and pursue these dreams although there is a high possibility that we may fail.

What I like about this video and some of the other video submitted for the competition where the students ability to address such a large topic in such a creative way. The video does not limit itself to the question being asks and makes a point that he will one day do something great and wonderful. That this thing that inspires him to take it above and beyond is what will prove that their investment was not in vein. And finally, that we are all capable, no matter our race, religion, intelligence, or financial status to do something great and wonderful.

Sincerely, Hector Guzman
