Relationships

Official Start Time: 1:00 a.m.
Date: 6/7/09
Official End Time: 1:30 a.m.

Relationships. This year as in many years, I have grown. I have taken on new endeavors, new challenges, and tried out new things.

In a way, I feel like I am socially retarded when it comes to relationships. At times I feel that I am to hard on myself while other times I wish I could be more casual, more suave, more likable. Let me explain.

At my age, I feel that I am self-conscious of my looks and my personality. I want people to like me and I want to be someone that people can relate to. I want to be normal. I understand however that these feelings are normal and they are all part of the growing up process.

I’ve realized that these things come in time but there are times when I wish the process could be sped up. There are times when I wish I knew where I stood in life and the future wasn’t a complete haze. There are times I wish I had the chance to go back and correct the mistakes I have made. However, I digress.

In my opinion, relationship, both sexual and non-sexual, are things that just happen. Relationships come and go and because of that it is up to you to decide how you will react. I’ve realized and have seen with my own eyes that honesty is the best formula. That definition shall kill us. And that we are always thinking; pondering if our actions are just and if others will accept us. It’s all part of the growing up process.

The SATs

Official Start Time: 10:50 p.m.
Date: 6/6/09
Official End Time: 11:00 p.m.

Today I took the SATs and I think it went alright. I took them early in the morning and did alright in most of the subjects. I through the reading and writing parts were pretty easy. The math wasn’t hard but there were somethings that I wish I had studied up more on.

The whole test was about 4-5 hours and it really just became grueling after a while. It was like section after section after section with no end in sight. It eventually did come to an end and I was finally out of that building to go work with my cousin for the next 11 or so hours. That was interesting all on its own.

I’m kinda tired so this one’s gonna end right about........here.

The Driver Seat

Official Start Time:12:20 a.m.
Date: 6/5/09
Official End Time: 1:00 a.m.

The school year is almost coming to an end but there is something that is still eating away at me and my stubborn head: the driver seat.

No, I’m not talking about learning how to drive but rather the way people argue and how they lack to consider what it feels like to be in the driver seat.

I’ve taken difficult course and with each my understanding of the world we live in and the people who inhabit it has expanded. I have read about ancient civilizations that would sacrifice people to pay tribute to the Gods above and about people murderers and psychopaths were traumatized as children and forced to commit the deadly sins we commit them for today.

Speaking of wounded animals and there actions brings up my theory on the driver seat position and how as humans we lack the ability to sympathize for these men and women who have been scared by jerks just like you and me. Justice is blind but at the same time the man holding the gavel seems to forget he is dealing with a human being who needs help not another reason to hate humanity.

In literature, superior life forms always blame the human race for its incompetence and greed. How we are quick to destroy and even quicker to enslave what we can. We are defiant creatures who push life toward our greedy desires and fail to consider the lives of others and how ever action has a reaction that I call the driver seat.

Roxbury

Official Start Time: 12:04 a.m.
Date: 6/4/09
Official End Time: 12:30 a.m.

So today was Roxbury. Roxbury is kinda like Project Search but at a larger scale. We go to an actual park, examine trees, the quality of life at the lake and hike for about a half a mile. In other words, a nature lover’s paradise.

So at Roxbury, we did some tree identification. My group did alright but that was just the beginning. From there we went down to the river. The river was huge in comparison to the one we visit for Project Search. There were rocks, water, and wildlife everywhere. You could look over your shoulder and lose yourself at the beauty you were looking at. We didn’t go far into the river, just far enough for your leg to get soaked.

Eventually we did make our way out of the river and onto the hike. The hike was really what made the nature aspect of this trip so great. We ran up and down through forest and cliffs. People fell and others laughed. I on the other hand couldn’t stop thinking about you, Chen qi yi, and how awesome it would be to bring you to a place like this. There were parts of the hike that were simply jaw dropping. Looking over into the river as you hiked against the cliff side, slopping down the edge as you made you way through the forest, seeing nature in its most purest element made this trip just awesome.

The people who went on the trip were also pretty cool. It doesn’t really match the experience on Project Search but it does form a considerable threat when you consider Kenhji and the things he did. I just was thinking too much about coming to this place and doing more of the things I didn’t have a chance to do the first time.

The Perfect Education System

Official Start Time: 2:00 a.m.
Date: 6/3/09
Official End Time: 3:00 a.m.

Education in the 21st century like any other century has gone under tremendous change as society continues to push towards the "perfect education system". Society today is no longer based off the beliefs of hunters and gathers nor is society based off the beliefs of a religious hierarchy where the Lord keeps order and structure across the board. People today understand rhyme from reason however are perplexed when it comes to reform especially in the field of education.

The age old routines of rigorous studying, testing and reviewing are at jeopardy as opportunity gives society reason to question the logic behind this mold. Not everyone can be the smartest or the best at something, but everyone should have the same opportunity to live a fulfilling life that entitles them to their unalienable right of life, liberty and happiness. The mold of our parents and grandparents however goes against this belief as only the best were allowed to live the good life in comparison to those who might have just missed the bar when it came to test day.

This mold simply doesn't fit in a knowledge based economy where the number of people and opportunities is at a constant race towards the top. The ideal education system would be one that was able to grant students a life of happiness, but the divide between conservative and liberal forms of education is often too wide to gap.

In many cases it comes to down to choosing one or the other and very few institution are daring enough to make the switch when it comes to funding and integrity. Everyone wants to be the best and very few would jeopardize that status by invoicing ideas that would put at risk their legitimacy and legacy. The perfect education system starts with educational reform and the introduction of new media to the classroom.

In today's current education system, students are hindered by the instruction their teachers can give them and the materials they are granted. In a world of instant information, we are killing our students future as they are prepared for the world our parents lived in rather than that lays ahead.

The future of education is defiance. In the past, education provided structure and order: giving students the skills they needed to find a good job and become a functioning members in their community. However, students today are entering a larger community. Student today are competing with students from all over the world as innovation and technology continue to push the human race forward. This paradox creates a situation where a student doesn't need a formal education to be successful. Big business and young entrepreneurs are taking the scene by storm and our students are soon to get caught in this giant wave of change. Those that do succeed are the ones with the diligence to persevered.

Today's students are no longer confined to the four walls of the classroom. Their opportunities stretch onto the Internet and create a new playing field where those who are the most creative will succeed. Today's students should not only be equipped with skills in math, science, engineering, and math but in liberal arts and management as the global society they are about to enter pushes their will to succeed.

Veggie Monster

Official Start Time: 8:00 p.m.
Date: 6/2/09
Official End Time: 8:30 p.m.

This has to be a new low. I grew up watching Sesame Street and remembered how Cookie Monster and the other monsters taught me how to count and spell . . . NOT EAT!

I understand that the obesity issue in America is affecting children at new levels. That the media has a big role in what our children buy and therefore we must address these issue. However, I grew up watching Cookie Monster and his gluttonous habits. I also grew up watching TV and being exposed to both cigarette and cereal commercials. However, I had common sense and parents that taught me how to eat right.

The issue isn’t the commercials. The issues isn’t the media or the cartoon characters that influence our children. (We’ve already addressed that issue in the Tobacco company) The real issue is the way we teach our children to eat right and make good decisions. Teaching our children to eat right and maintain a healthy lifestyle, educating them for a better tomorrow will be all we’ll need to prepare them for a better, healthier tomorrow.

Project Search

Official Start Time: 11:00 p.m.
Date: 6/1/09
Official End Time: 11:30 p.m.

So today was Project Search and it was pretty fun. Interesting and cool all at the same time. The night before however was quite the opposite. I had an English assignment due and I couldn’t get online no matter how hard I tried. I had finished most of it at home and planned to get the picture I need and hand it in as soon as I got into Mancuso’s room but as it turned out the school was invested with virus and no flash drives could be read nor could anyone connect to the Internet.

Once I got into Mancuso’s room, I tried all I could to get the assignment to Walker (oh wait Ms. Walker) but it looks like it wasn’t my day and I really didn’t much of a chance explaining what happened to her so I probably got a zero. (We’ll pick up on this story in the future, but for now Project Search)

So around 8:00 a.m. we start making our way down to the lobby as we await the bus. I was pretty excited about the trip (even though it was raining) because I was gonna be going with new people and I was gonna be doing something I like or at least I thought. On the trip there were a shit of freshmen and girls that I have no idea why they were being so weird. Saying awkward things, speaking in seductive ways, I couldn’t resist. I was casual and at the same time pretty funny.

I don’t expect anything from these kinds of girl seeing as they’re just here for fun. I’ve come to realize that not all girl want a serious relationship or even a relationship period. Some just wanna have fun. But I digress.

So on the bus ride, I’m sitting next to the window when a fly suddenly zooms in and scares the shit out of all the girls on the bus. For the next ten minutes, it’s total chaos as you have teachers trying to maintain order and student playing exterminator as they fling flip flops and who knows at a bug that meant no harm.

I really shouldn’t mention names but there are some girls on that bus that are pretty “funny” and there are others who you wish were a little more open. But I digress.

So to wrap it up, we eventually finish our mission at the lake, grab lunch (I got a free mocha sundae), and make our way back to Daly’s room where we start getting down to the nitty gritty. There we bond, crack jokes, and fail to accomplish what even the dumbest scientist could. Oh well, I was just there for the fun. School has been running me dry.
