Education in the 21st century like any other century has gone under tremendous change as society continues to push towards the "perfect education system". Society today is no longer based off the beliefs of hunters and gathers nor is society based off the beliefs of a religious hierarchy where the Lord keeps order and structure across the board. People today understand rhyme from reason however are perplexed when it comes to reform especially in the field of education.
The age old routines of rigorous studying, testing and reviewing are at jeopardy as opportunity gives society reason to question the logic behind this mold. Not everyone can be the smartest or the best at something, but everyone should have the same opportunity to live a fulfilling life that entitles them to their unalienable right of life, liberty and happiness. The mold of our parents and grandparents however goes against this belief as only the best were allowed to live the good life in comparison to those who might have just missed the bar when it came to test day.
This mold simply doesn't fit in a knowledge based economy where the number of people and opportunities is at a constant race towards the top. The ideal education system would be one that was able to grant students a life of happiness, but the divide between conservative and liberal forms of education is often too wide to gap.
In many cases it comes to down to choosing one or the other and very few institution are daring enough to make the switch when it comes to funding and integrity. Everyone wants to be the best and very few would jeopardize that status by invoicing ideas that would put at risk their legitimacy and legacy. The perfect education system starts with educational reform and the introduction of new media to the classroom.
In today's current education system, students are hindered by the instruction their teachers can give them and the materials they are granted. In a world of instant information, we are killing our students future as they are prepared for the world our parents lived in rather than that lays ahead.
The future of education is defiance. In the past, education provided structure and order: giving students the skills they needed to find a good job and become a functioning members in their community. However, students today are entering a larger community. Student today are competing with students from all over the world as innovation and technology continue to push the human race forward. This paradox creates a situation where a student doesn't need a formal education to be successful. Big business and young entrepreneurs are taking the scene by storm and our students are soon to get caught in this giant wave of change. Those that do succeed are the ones with the diligence to persevered.
Today's students are no longer confined to the four walls of the classroom. Their opportunities stretch onto the Internet and create a new playing field where those who are the most creative will succeed. Today's students should not only be equipped with skills in math, science, engineering, and math but in liberal arts and management as the global society they are about to enter pushes their will to succeed.
Sincerely, Hector Guzman
